Can anyone help me....I need to wire up a rev counter on my mk1 saloon but dont know how to start
I'm also hoping to get a volt meter so will have similar problems then......

I'm going to have a centre console with extra dials in which has been planned for a while.....only planned though

Thanks

What type of rev counter? There are two variations;

  • The wire to the coil from the ignition switch goes through the Tacho.
  • The Tacho has a tap from the "coil from the ignition" and a separate 12v feed.

Re the voltmeter just take a feed off of the system, a white wire from somewhere to the voltmeter terminal and earth the casing.

If you get stuck, install the units in your car and bring it to me, I'll wire it up

Not entirely sure what the rev counter is from......

Alex has an early PI tacho - with 3 connectors plus the earth (type RV1 2631 / 00).  There is a good description of the connections in the Leyland Workshop Manual which I'll try to copy if needed.

by the way  volt gauges are not polarity sensitive
so  one ignition feed to one terminal  and one earth tag to other
